Got\ngood workers? Want to keep them? Then make sure they get regular training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the last few years, the number of employees quitting their jobs has increased<\/a> steadily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And what\u2019s top of their list of reasons why<\/a>? Lack of career development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employees who feel they\u2019re growing and learning new skills are more likely to stay put. And in today\u2019s strong economy, with unemployment rates low, it\u2019s in your best interests to encourage that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Training saves money<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The\ncost of training can be off-putting, particularly for small business owners.\nBut employee turnover costs your company, too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But\ntraining\u2019s not all about retaining staff and boosting business performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not training employees can cost you<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The\nrisk of human error is one of the biggest your business faces. Mistakes made by\nyour staff can lead to fines, lawsuits and bad publicity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most\nsmall businesses don\u2019t have the resources to deal with a drawn-out court case. Or\na PR crisis.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a claim goes to court and gets drawn out, your legal expenses, court costs and compensation, if you\u2019re liable, can run to five or six figures. For a small business owner, that could be enough to shut you down completely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Too much of a good thing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Training\nis good for your employees. And it\u2019s good for business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But don\u2019t\ngo overboard on it. Too much training can actually have a negative effect on\nyour staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plan a program<\/a>. Track it. And take feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back-up plan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sadly,\nno amount of staff training will wipe out risk completely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
