What is home care?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unlike home health care which is medical, home care is providing non-medical care services in the comfort of the client\u2019s own home. But it can also be wherever the client calls home \u2013 with other family members, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Home care\u2019s a great way to help clients remain in their home and get the care they need to live a productive and healthy life. Family members may have that feeling of worry or stress about who is going to come and care for their family members. They\u2019ll say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI must work and care for my family. I cannot take care of two households if mom or dad want to live in their own homes with home care givers. But how can I be sure the caregivers are the right people to have in our homes?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your answer should be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can assure you you\u2019re not the only one going through this, asking these questions and worrying about the care of your family member.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let them know their children may go through the same thing when they get older and that you\u2019ve seen it, repeatedly, with family after family. Once they see how home care works and how it can not only benefit the individual needing the care, but their family, too, hopefully, the stress will disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the best thing about running your own home care business? And the worst?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m going to give you what I think are the worst bits, first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve all seen the horror videos of caregivers abusing patients, but that\u2019s just a tiny part of the care sector. There\u2019s always a thorn in a rose bush, but the nice smell of them and how pretty they look, makes you want to get close and touch them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Home care should be the same. You should weed out the bad caregivers and cut the thorns off to smell the roses. In other words, enjoy your caregiver and they\u2019ll enjoy you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This can help you look at home care differently. But, if you need more information, look for a home care agency or consultant to help you figure out the home care process. Do not <\/em>do it alone. Involve other family members and friends, if possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s most important, though, is that you get a home care professional to come and help you. It\u2019s only when family members, or first-time home care business owners, try to do it alone that stress sets in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember, home care is there to take the stress out of caring for your clients and benefit the whole family at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How bad do you want it?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Starting up and running a homecare business \u2013 or any business \u2013 will take a lot of your time away from family and friends. You\u2019ll miss lots of events, family gatherings and much more. So, how bad do you want it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019ll be late nights and early mornings. As the business owner you\u2019re constantly on call, and you\u2019ll wear a thousand hats when you first start out. You\u2019ll feel like the lone ranger for a while until you get the right team together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being the solution to their problem<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The best thing about running your own home care business? Most people will think it\u2019s being their own boss. And that can be true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But for me, the best part is being a helping hand to families in need of home care. It\u2019s being the solution to their problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, there are other benefits to running your own business, like making your own hours. If you do a good job of caring for the elderly and disabled, you can also make a great living for you and your family from it. And best of all, leave a legacy for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve hired some great caregivers, you\u2019re on your way. Remember, the caregivers represent you. If you care for them, they\u2019ll help your business grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let your good outweigh your bad <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Caregiving is a gift. Not everyone is cut out to care for others and their performance on the job will reveal this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting the best caregivers (staff) can make your home care journey a success and more enjoyable. But things do happen and how you handle these things is key to your business growing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Know your why<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Remember, starting your own business requires working when you don\u2019t want to, working late nights and early starts. If you\u2019re starting your own business, you must know your \u2018why\u2019. Because if your \u2018why\u2019 is not greater than your fears, you won\u2019t make it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
